Where Does Your Gift Go?

Let the Artists Tell You

Marilyn Blinkhorn

The generosity of the Arts Club has helped me out a great deal. I live alone and it has helped with rent, and with heat payments in the winter. I have used it for paints and brushes, papers and canvas.

This gift has given me peace of mind and a strong feeling about continuing to create. It has alleviated many of my worries. I am truly grateful for this kindness.

Every year I use the Arts Club money for art related expenses. In 2022 I bought ten frames from Henry at PS Art Frames. I’m still working on filling them! Last year I was able to buy enough paint, brushes, and canvas to last me a year or two. I use the money exclusively for art expenses because they are separate and above my monthly budget. It is a great help because it allows me to purchase painting supplies without dipping into the household budget. I can afford better quality materials this way. It is greatly appreciated by me and a huge help because of the incredible cost of painting supplies. Thanks so much.

My annual gift is such a welcome and most generous gift! I can’t even tell you how much it is appreciated each year. As winter closes in it can be a dry season for painters that show in seasonal galleries. Generally in New England it is an expensive time of year with heating costs and of course for us horse lovers, hay expenses too! So my gift usually goes right into my income stream to pay for hay, heating or other bills that I have to settle. Last year my heating system blew up and I needed to buy a new heating system. So I purchased a mini split system to heat and cool my house using a credit card, Then your gift arrived and I was able to pay off the heating system loan! Oh Judy, you are an artist’s guardian angel!! I am blessed and beyond grateful to you!

I remember how your gift to Heidi in the first year of The Arts Club helped her mend her leaking roof; how it helped Scott Jackson and how it helped the rest of us with our supplies and studio rents. It sort of reminds me of how your Dad wanted to give money to his children because he had it and very much wanted to do that, so he did. I know you didn’t do it because he did but because you wanted to. How extremely happy and grateful Adam was for allowing him with your gift to make his own press!

Like Scott Jackson, frames are always needed for me, it’s also all art supplies… paint, mineral spirits, canvas, and etc. It helps!

Thank you!

Since I am a professional painter, I have no other work. The support from Judy Reilly has added a safety net in many ways that buttress every day life and the studio.

• Studio light and heat.

• Upgrades to studio lighting. We are able to photograph our own work, and occasionally the work of others.

• Replaced paints that were drying out.

• Fuel for field trips with the field camera. • New image software for the studio station.

• Replenish my brush inventory (I destroy them often). I’m able to get the proper wood for my panels (Baltic birch) and straight lumber for cradling. • Archive disks.

• Framing Stock, and occasionally finished framing. The Arts Club support has often bridged the gap between painting sales, allowing the freedom from worry that is the background noise in any artists life.

I spend my Arts Club money on professional fees: Annual Encaustic Conference, juried exhibition submission fees, membership fees (Provincetown Art Association and Museum, Cotuit Center for the Arts). Art supplies: since I want to work larger, the panels are going to be more expensive. The Arts Club money is such a gift because where I might hesitate about the cost, I can take a chance on new work.

I like to use it to buy more tools/metal for my own studio practice!

In appreciation for The Arts Club of JW Reilly, I would like to express how the Club has made it possible for me to build a one-of-a-kind engraving press. Printing has a rich history and is a wonderful form of art. Building an engraving press by hand is a significant task. Drawing up plans, finding, purchasing and assembling all the parts, and scheduling time for construction required a lot of time and money. It was truly a joy! The planning and purchasing were made easier with the help from The Arts Club of JW Reilly. After about a year of work, I successfully built my press. It is a beautiful press, if I do say so myself, and I am very proud of it.
